Why Did Jesus Die on Good Friday?
We have all done wrong, none of us have lived a perfect live. That fact is even mentioned in this verse: “for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God” Rom 3:23 (ASV). God understands our condition as humans.
He is the sacrifice for the wrong things we have done and the good we failed to do
“God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,[a] through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26. he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.” Romans 3:25-26 (NIV)
God has made a way for us, in Rom 6:23 it says that “For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (ASV)
He died for us anyway, when we were helpless and unable save ourselves through our own efforts
“For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7. (For rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person perhaps someone might possibly dare to die.) 8. But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9. Much more then, because we have now been declared righteous by his blood, we will be saved through him from God’s wrath.” Romans 5:6-9 (NET)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (ESV)
“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.” 1 Peter 3:18 (NIV)
